* IMGs applying to our program must be ECFMG certified by the beginning of residency, so ECFMG certification requirements should be in process. Emory University currently sponsors J-1 visas. We do not have any particular USMLE score at which we do/do not grant an interview, but those with the best scores have a better chance of getting invited. We do not require clinical experience in the US (such as an elective, externship or observership). We do not offer externships or observerships through the Residency Education Office.

We require an average score of at least 77-80 on the USMLE Steps 1 and2. The number of attempts/failures are evaluated by the residency training committee.
There is no “cut-off” date for MD graduation;applications are considered on an individual basis.
You must have three(3) professional letters of reference written within the last 18 months and
one from the Dean of Medical School (Dean’s Letter).

We do not offer any observerships and/or externships in our program and although U.S. Psychiatry experience is preferred,it is not required.

We will support non-immigrant applicants selected to a position in the program in obtaining J-1 sponsorship by the ECFMG (no H1B visas).
However, for all international medical graduates, ECFMG certificate must be in-hand and not pending if invited for an interview.
